The project
A site built around the company's values, with a logo to match.
I designed the logo and built the website for Sonrise Construction in 2015, for a home builder and remodeler in Freeport, Ohio. Willie Miller founded the company decades earlier, and four of his sons ran it by then. They wanted a site that showed the quality of their homes and the values the company had kept from the start.
So the site carried "Willie's Words" throughout, short quotes from Willie on doing the work right and treating customers fairly, set beside photos of finished homes, with a gallery for each job.
The logo kept the sun the company had always used and added a hammer, hidden in the space between the letters of the name. In early 2016, I added the company's Best of Houzz badge and a Houzz review feed to the footer, so a customer could read reviews on the site and leave one.

Real homes, and the family who built them
The pages showed the company's own work and its own people. Between the sections, a red band carried one of Willie's Words.

Done right, down to the parts nobody sees
The best detail in this logo is one most people never notice.
and down
A good electrician turns every outlet screw so the slot points straight up and down. Most homeowners never notice. Another electrician does, and that one screw tells them how the rest of the job was done. Websites have clues like that behind every page. They tell you whether someone did the job right or took shortcuts.
Look at the gap between the "r" and the "i." The white space forms a hammer, and its handle runs down into the "U" in Construction. Most people read the name and never see it. It's there anyway.
The logo I designed for Sonrise Construction.
On every site I build, each photo gets a file name and a description, each page gets a title written for Google, and the code underneath tells search engines what the business does and where it works. Visitors never see any of it. Google reads every line.
"Josh built a new website for our construction company from scratch. We had previously dabbled with a few other web designers, but no one came close to giving us the personalized touch and care that Josh showed us through this process.
Josh is a great designer and has a good feel for what's 'the latest and greatest,' but what impressed me the most was the interest he took in understanding our company values and how he was able to portray that on our website! I would recommend him to anyone looking to build a website and will be using him in the future."
