How the work connects

Strings join the projects that share something, like a trade, a kind of business, or a kind of work.

A contractor will want to see the other contractors. A new business will want the startups. Follow a string to the work most like yours, then pick a print to open its page.

How I work

One way of working, on every project

The person on the first call launches the site and looks after it.

    One person, start to finish

On every project here, the person on the first call was the person who launched the site. No project changed hands along the way. Size doesn't change that. My largest build runs more than 130 pages, and one person held the plan for every one.

    Built for the long haul

A website needs care for as long as it's live. Ecosense has worked with me since 2015, and DR Miller Design Build and Family Value Flooring still send me their updates. When a client needs a new page, a fix, or advice, the request comes to me.

    Judged by what came after

A website earns its keep after launch, when customers find it, trust it, and get in touch. I build for that moment, with clear pages, a plan for search, and a simple way to reach the business. The Love and Beauty Maui case study follows one site through two years of inquiries, in a market that was still down. The Therm-A-Guard case study follows a site that sells to electric utilities through four years of Google search.

Sites that sent people my way

Some of these sites brought in work of their own. People who had never met me wrote to ask for a site like Maconachy Stradley's and like Medrock Pharmacy's.

Questions about the work

Still have a question?

Ask me directly
What is a web design portfolio?

A web design portfolio is a collection of websites a designer has built, shown with screenshots, links, and notes on the work, so a business owner can judge the designer's skill before hiring. The most useful ones also show results, meaning what each site did for the business after launch. Mine is sorted by kind of business, with case studies for the projects that have numbers to show.

What does a web designer portfolio look like?

A web designer portfolio looks like a gallery of real client websites, each with screenshots, the kind of business, what the designer built, and, in the strongest ones, the results the site brought in. This one pins the projects on a board, with strings joining the ones that share a trade or a kind of work, so you can follow a string to the businesses most like yours.

What should I look for in a web designer's portfolio?

Look for websites built for businesses like yours, recent work, live sites you can click through, and results the sites brought in. If every site looks the same, the designer may be starting each one from the same template. My design style has grown a lot over the years, so start with the most recent work to see how I design today.

What are some examples of websites?

Examples of websites include business sites, online stores, portfolios, blogs, nonprofit sites, and web apps, each built for a different job. This page shows business websites I've built, from a flooring store and a wedding studio to a manufacturer, a pharmacy, and a law firm. Most of them are small business websites, planned around how each one's customers search.

Can I see the live sites?

Yes, you can see the live sites where the live site is still my build. Its project page links to it. Each project page also has screenshots and a short note on what I built, so you can see the work even where a site has since changed.

Will my site look like one of these?

No, your site won't look like one of these. Each one is designed around its own business, shaped by who its customers are, what they need to see, and the look the owner wants. Yours starts from the same questions, so it ends up looking like your business.

What if my kind of business isn't here?

If your kind of business isn't here, that's fine, because these projects are a slice of the work. I've built websites for more than 50 industries since 2011. What changes from one to the next is how customers search and what they need to see before they call. I learn that from you, on the first call and in discovery.

Do these websites bring in business?

These websites are built to bring in business, and two case studies follow it closely. Love and Beauty Maui's inquiries rose in each of the two years after launch, while the market stayed about a third below 2022. Therm-A-Guard's clicks from Google have gone up every year since its site launched in 2022.

Can I start with a logo or a one-page site?

Yes, you can start with a logo or a one-page site. Several projects here pair a website with a logo I designed alongside it. A one-page site is a good start for a new business or a single service, and it can grow into a full website later.

How do I start a project?

You start a project with the Start a project form. After that comes a short call. If we're a good fit, I'll walk you through how we get started. From there, your project could be the next one on this page.
