What I built

The project

A warm, classy site that earns trust before the first meeting.

DR Miller Design Build is a design-build remodeler in Hartville, Ohio, serving homeowners across the Akron and Canton area. Dave Miller and his team design a kitchen, a bath, or an addition and then build it, so one company sees the job through from the first sketch to the final walkthrough.

When Dave came to me at the end of 2015, the company had no website. He wanted one with a warm, classy feel that would stand out from other remodelers' sites, and one that would earn a homeowner's trust before the first meeting.

DR Miller is in high demand, and most of its work comes from relationships. So the site was built first to show who Dave and his team are, so a homeowner feels they know the company before the first meeting. The search basics went in too.

I designed and built the site in 2016 around large photos of finished rooms, a page for each kind of remodel, and a page that walks through how a project runs with his team, step by step. I still host the site and make its updates, from new project photos to changes on the pages.

The craft

Done right, down to the parts nobody sees

Dave's homepage, with the drywall cut away.

straight up
and down

A good electrician turns every outlet screw so the slot points straight up and down. Most homeowners never notice. Another electrician does, and that one screw tells them how the rest of the job was done. Websites have clues like that behind every page. They tell you whether someone did the job right or took shortcuts. Here are the screws on Dave’s site. Each one names the work or the cities where he builds, such as Akron, Canton, and Cleveland.
